Sally Hogshead is a speaker, author, and brand-innovation consultant, helping companies develop messages that persuade and captivate. Clients past and present include Nike, MINI Cooper, Aflac, Cole Haan, Target, Coca-Cola, and Godiva.

Fascination is an intense emotional focus. When customers are fascinated by you and your message, they’re more likely to trust, believe, and respect you.

Sally Hogshead  has developed a scientifically-based system of influence, based on the brain’s hardwired patterns. For any goal that requires strong communication— from selling insurance to motivating top talent— the Fascinate system outlines the shortcut to persuasion.

Why are you captivated by some people, but not others? How do certain leaders convince you to change your opinion? Advertising icon Sally Hogshead has the answers. In her acclaimed book, Fascinate, Hogshead brings a strategic marketing approach to the art of influence. Often compared to the work of Malcolm Gladwell and Seth Godin, Hogshead’s research weaves together neurology, economics, history, biology, and pop culture.

Growing up with the last name “Hogshead” would give anyone an unconventional point of view.

While studying at Duke University, Sally Hogshead lived with an African tribe inside a goat dung hut. After graduation, she began a career in advertising, and in her early 20s, won more awards than any other writer in the U.S. At age 27, she founded her first ad agency, and next, was Creative Director/Managing director of illustrious agency CP+B. Clients included Nike, Coca-Cola, Godiva, Aflac, and MINI Cooper.

Sally Hogshead ’s first book was Radical careering: 100 Truths to Jumpstart Your Job, Your Career, and Your Life. Published by Penguin, it outlines the rules for building a no-compromises career with a fascinating personal brand. Marcus Buckingham, one of the leaders behind Gallup’s StrengthsFinder, writes: “Take inventory of your strengths, identify your passions, then do everything in your power to carve your career toward them. Only then will you, and everyone else, see the best of you. Want to know how? Read this book.”

Her next book, Fascinate, was published around the globe, earning Sally Hogshead  a frequent spotlight in major media including Today Show and the New York Times. The press describes Sally a “marketing icon” who has “changed the face of North American advertising.”

Sally Hogshead ’s internationally-acclaimed book, Fascinate: Your 7 Triggers to Persuasion and Captivation, has been translated into 14 languages.

Fascinate

What triggers fascination, and how do companies, people, and ideas put those triggers to use?

Why are you captivated by some people but not by others? Why do you recall some brands yet forget the rest? In a distracted, overcrowded world, how do certain leaders, friends, and family members convince you to change your behavior? Fascination: the most powerful way to influence decision making. It's more persuasive than marketing, advertising, or any other form of communication. And it all starts with seven universal triggers: lust, mystique, alarm, prestige, power, vice, and trust.

Fascination plays a role in every type of decision making, from the brands you choose to the songs you remember, from the person you marry to the employees you hire. And by activating the right triggers, you can make anything become fascinating.

To explore and explain fascination's irresistible influence, Sally Hogshead looks beyond marketing, delving into behavioral and social studies, historical precedents, neurobiology and evolutionary anthropology, as well as conducting in-depth interviews and a national study of a thousand consumers, to emerge with deeply rooted patterns for why, and how, we become captivated.
