Mitch Lowe uses his experience from working with successful startups like Netflix, Redbox, and MoviePass to teach entrepreneurs how to simplify their business and to create a winning culture.
Mitch Lowe is a top business speaker and entertainment industry speaker, CEO of MoviePass, co-founding executive of Netflix, and former President of Redbox.
Mitch Lowe invested in and became CEO of MoviePass, Inc, a subscription service that charges members a monthly fee for movie tickets at cinemas. Recently, he helped grow the MoviePass subscriber base from 20,000 to millions of subscribers.
Lowe’s first creation was the Video Droid, an early movie rental machine back in the 80s. He sold it to a Japanese company and started opening video rental stores (back when those were still profitable). After sensing the switch to online content, he and Marc Randolph came up with the idea for Netflix. The rest, as they say, is history. Mitch was a founding Executive at Netflix, Inc., serving as Netflix’s Entertainment Domain Expert and as Vice President of Business Development & Strategic Alliances from 1998 to 2003.
In 2003 Mitch joined the investment group at McDonald’s to co-lead as COO and then as President, at Redbox, a DVD vending machine rental service, that under his leadership grew to 35k kiosks across the US with revenue growing from less than $1m in 2003 to $1.5B in revenue in 2011 with over $325m in free cash flow.
Lowe states that the startup companies that succeed simplify their internal and external processes. Amazon has one-click purchasing, Southwest flies only one type of plane, and Apple integrates all of its products. Therefore, Lowe advises you examine each step in your business process (selling and internal) and get to the shortest possible route possible for customers. And the best way to do this? Simple, listen to the customer.
Mitch Lowe has made many personal investments in start-ups primarily in the entertainment, blockchain and social space. Mitch Lowe is passionate about the success and business fulfillment of people in large businesses as well as first-time entrepreneurs. In his winning culture keynote talk and business interviews, Mitch Lowe explains the two principles every entrepreneur should follow to ensure startup success: listen to customer feedback and simplify the process.
